Support SOOK

Chip in for the crab.

A family and friends are building SOOK on weekends: a giant blue crab, pedalled by four people, 15 miles through Baltimore and into the harbour. Sponsors cover most of it. Chip-ins from people like you cover the rest, and every dollar goes into the build.

Online chip-ins open soon

We're setting up a simple way to chip in online. Until then you can sponsor SOOK, give parts or tools, or say hello at [email protected].

The plain facts

  • It supports the build. Your money buys parts, metal, wheels, safety gear and paint for SOOK.
  • It is not tax-deductible. SOOK is a family-and-friends project, not a nonprofit (yet). If we sign up with a fiscal sponsor later, we'll say so right here.
  • Nobody on the crew gets paid. No salaries, no prize money kept. Everyone builds for free.
  • Paid the wrong amount? Email [email protected] and we'll sort it out.

What your money buys

Real lines from our build budget (our best guess, before sponsor discounts).

  • Life jackets ×5 + helmets ×4the harbour splashdown≈ $500
  • Chain, sprockets, tensionerspedals to wheels≈ $300
  • Hydraulic brakesstopping on the hills≈ $500
  • Floating drum wheels: foam, glass, epoxyrolling and swimming≈ $1,600
  • Aluminium + steel frame kit and rivetsthe skeleton≈ $2,700
  • Paint, foam, fabric, lightsher true colours≈ $700

The whole build, with a safety cushion≈ $55,300

Every bit helps

  • 30 × $10 = the whole chain drive
  • 50 × $10 = every life jacket and helmet
  • 70 × $10 = her paint, foam, fabric and lights

Where the money goes, in this order

  1. Safe, strong, ready to race. Frame, welding, drive, brakes, drums, seats, life jackets, lights, tools, tests, transport, fees. Needed to race and to ACE.
  2. The look. The crab: her motions, skeleton, turntable and controller, paint and art, dressing, the crowd QR kit, sponsor shirts.
  3. The show tech. Livestream, fog and steam, the pilot coach, eye cameras, the front screen, heart-rate straps.
